The Federal University of Technology, Babura (FUTB), Jigawa State, has announced a 100 per cent tuition and school-fee waiver for newly admitted students studying B.Sc Mathematics and B.Sc Physics.
The university said the initiative is aimed at encouraging more young Nigerians to pursue careers in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics and Medical Sciences (STEMM) and helping address the shortage of skilled professionals in science-related fields.
The announcement was contained in a statement signed by the university’s Registrar, Mrs Fatima Muhammad, and released to journalists on Wednesday.
Free tuition throughout the programme
According to the university, successful beneficiaries will receive a 100 per cent waiver covering tuition and other school fees for the duration of their studies.
The Registrar described the initiative as a community service intended to make science education more accessible, particularly to students from Northern Nigeria and other underserved communities.
The university also said the policy is expected to increase enrolment in core science programmes that often attract fewer students despite their importance to technological development and innovation.
Who can benefit?
The opportunity is open to newly admitted students who meet the university’s admission requirements for B.Sc Mathematics or B.Sc Physics.
Candidates who initially selected another course or institution may also be eligible to benefit by changing their institution and/or course to Federal University of Technology, Babura through JAMB.
Interested candidates were advised to visit a JAMB CBT centre to process the required change of institution or course.

FUTB said strengthening science education is critical to producing graduates who can contribute to research, teaching, technology, innovation and industrial development.
The university urged qualified candidates to take advantage of the opportunity, noting that the fee waiver applies to the current admission cycle.
Prospective students were also advised to contact the university’s admissions office for confirmation of eligibility and guidance on the admission and change-of-course process.
