The Cross River State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) has received thousands of classroom furniture items and 20 minibuses under the 2025 Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC)/Cross River SUBEB Intervention Project, marking a significant investment in improving learning conditions and strengthening education management across the state.
The intervention includes 600 chairs for Early Childhood Care Development and Education (ECCDE) centres, 480 sets of desks and chairs for junior secondary schools, and 3,120 sets of desks and chairs for primary schools. In addition, 20 minibuses have been provided to enhance school monitoring, quality assurance, and supervision across Cross River’s 18 local government areas.
Presenting the items, the Executive Chairman of Cross River SUBEB, Mrs. Fedelia Okpo Ene, described the intervention as a major step toward improving the quality of teaching and learning in public basic schools.
She said the provision of modern classroom furniture would create a more conducive learning environment, improve pupils’ comfort and concentration, and contribute to better academic performance.
According to the SUBEB chairman, the newly acquired minibuses will strengthen the Board’s ability to conduct regular school inspections, monitor compliance with educational standards, and improve quality assurance across the state’s basic education system.
Mrs. Okpo Ene expressed appreciation to the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) for its continued partnership and support in advancing basic education in Cross River State.
She also commended Governor Senator Bassey Edet Otu for prioritising education through sustained investments in school infrastructure, learning facilities, and institutional capacity development.
Reaffirming the Board’s commitment to transparency and accountability, she assured that the classroom furniture and vehicles would be distributed fairly across schools to maximise their impact on teaching, learning, and service delivery.
She noted that the intervention aligns with Governor Otu’s “People First” agenda, which focuses on expanding access to quality education, improving learning environments, and strengthening institutional capacity within the state’s basic education sector.
The 2025 UBEC/Cross River SUBEB Intervention Project reflects the shared commitment of the Federal Government, through UBEC, and the Cross River State Government to building an inclusive, resilient, and high-performing basic education system that meets the learning needs of every child.
