Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has approved the appointment of Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen as the substantive Rector of The Polytechnic, Ibadan, alongside three other principal officers to strengthen the institution’s leadership.
The appointments mark the end of a prolonged period during which the institution’s key administrative positions were held in acting capacities.
New Principal Officers
The newly appointed officials are:
- Dr. Lasisi Taiwo Abideen – Rector
- Dr. Olajide Taiwo Sherifat – Registrar
- Mr. Adegbola Abiodun Kolawole – Bursar
- Mr. Osunrinade Olukunle Akinbola – Librarian
The appointments were approved by Governor Makinde and announced in a statement issued by the Commissioner for Information, Dotun Oyelade.
Appointment Followed Due Process
The Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Prof. Salihu Adelabu, said the selection process complied with established regulations governing appointments into leadership positions in Oyo State-owned tertiary institutions.
According to him, the recruitment process began with the public advertisement of the vacancies in national newspapers, allowing qualified candidates to apply.
Applicants were subsequently screened and interviewed by the institution’s Governing Council, chaired by Professor Lanre Nassar, before recommendations were submitted for the governor’s approval.
Five-Year Single Tenure
Prof. Adelabu disclosed that the appointments took effect on 31 July 2026 and will run for a single five-year tenure, in line with the institution’s governing regulations.
Strengthening Institutional Leadership
The commissioner congratulated the newly appointed officers and urged them to provide visionary leadership that will advance the Polytechnic’s academic standards, institutional stability, and overall development.
He encouraged the new management team to promote innovation, strengthen governance, and enhance the quality of teaching, research, and administrative services.
The appointments are expected to provide stable leadership for The Polytechnic, Ibadan, positioning the institution to build on its legacy as one of Nigeria’s leading polytechnics while responding to the evolving demands of technical and higher education.
