The 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, has thrown his weight behind the education reforms of Abba Kabir Yusuf, praising the administration’s strong commitment to reviving the sector.

Speaking on Sunday during the traditional Sallah homage at the Kano State Government House, the Emir described the government’s decision to allocate about 30% of the state budget to education as bold, strategic, and vital for human capital development.

According to him, the impact is already visible, with improved student performance in national examinations such as NECO and JAMB, as well as in tertiary institutions.

Sanusi also urged residents especially young people to take full advantage of the government’s education policies by returning to school and completing their studies.

He emphasized the importance of education in personal and societal growth, encouraging families to support women who wish to further their education, noting that learning should be prioritised above all else.

The Emir further clarified that his recent return to school was purely to lead by example and inspire others, dismissing speculation linking it to legal matters. He stressed that education enhances dignity, even for traditional rulers.

In addition, Sanusi commended the state government’s broader development strides, including infrastructure and urban renewal projects, describing them as signs of genuine commitment to Kano’s progress.

While applauding the administration, he urged the government to maintain the momentum and called on residents to support its efforts while praying for peace, unity, and continued development.

In response, the Speaker of the Kano State House of Assembly, Ismail Falgore, who represented the governor, expressed appreciation for the Emir’s support. He reaffirmed the government’s dedication to improving education and other key sectors, while assuring citizens of continued efforts to safeguard lives and property.
