The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has defended the credibility of the 2026 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) results, urging candidates, parents and the general public to disregard unverified claims questioning their accuracy.
The examination body made its position known in a statement issued by its Public Affairs Department on Thursday via X, following recent concerns and discussions on social media about the credibility of the results.
WAEC said the 2026 WASSCE for School Candidates was conducted in accordance with its established standard operating procedures and relevant educational policies, in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Education.
The council maintained that the results were processed through rigorous, transparent and quality-assured procedures that have guided its examinations over the years.
“While the Council welcomes constructive scrutiny as part of its accountability to candidates, parents, schools, and the wider public, it wishes to state unequivocally that this year’s results were produced through the same rigorous, transparent, and quality-assured processes that have guided the Council’s operations for decades,” the statement said.
WAEC acknowledged that candidates and their families may experience anxiety following the release of examination results, particularly as students await admission into higher institutions.
However, the council warned against relying on unverified information and speculation circulating on social media.
Explaining its result-processing procedures, WAEC said every candidate’s examination script passes through multiple stages of marking, moderation and auditing before results are released.
“Every candidate’s script undergoes a multi-tiered system of marking, moderation, and auditing. These processes are guided by standardized marking schemes and overseen by vetted subject experts to ensure objective and fair scoring,” the council stated.
The examination body also said it had established channels for candidates and other stakeholders who wish to query their results or seek clarification.
According to WAEC, candidates can access guidance on the resolution of result-related queries through its offices nationwide and its verified online communication platforms.
The council reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining the integrity of its examinations and ensuring that candidates are treated fairly throughout the assessment process.
“WAEC hereby reiterates its unwavering commitment to preserving the integrity of its assessment processes and safeguarding the interests of every candidate,” it said.
The examination body therefore advised candidates, parents, schools and members of the public with concerns about the 2026 WASSCE results to contact WAEC directly through its official offices and verified communication channels rather than relying on social media claims.
The council said direct engagement with the appropriate channels would help ensure that genuine concerns are properly investigated and addressed.
