Six students of Lagos State University (LASU), Ojo, have emerged among the outstanding performers recognised by the Nigerian French Language Village (NFLV), Badagry, Lagos, at its latest graduation and awards ceremony.
The students were part of a cohort representing 45 Nigerian universities that completed the French immersion programme at the Federal Government-owned inter-university centre.
A total of 14 students recorded the highest results across nine specialised courses, with six of the outstanding students coming from LASU.
The overall best-performing student of the cohort, Ibrahim Ahmad Baushe of Abia State University, received the coveted star prize. Each participating university also produced an overall best-performing student.
In a special recognition, the best-performing student who is an indigene of Badagry received a community award sponsored by the Badagry Local Government.
The Nigerian French Language Village is a specialised Federal Government-owned training centre established to provide French language immersion for university students.
The programme caters primarily to 300-level undergraduates studying French, giving them a mandatory, hands-on immersion experience designed to strengthen their language proficiency and practical communication skills.
Speaking at the awards ceremony in Badagry, the Chairman of the Governing Council, Labiru Kafur, and the Director-General of the village, Professor Samuel Kolawole, commended the students for their resilience, discipline and commitment throughout the programme.
The officials expressed pride in the students’ academic achievements and good conduct during the six-month intensive training programme.
They congratulated the graduating students and urged them to remain focused and committed to their studies as they return to their respective universities to complete their degree programmes.
The management also encouraged the graduates to uphold the values and standards of the Nigerian French Language Village and serve as exemplary ambassadors of the institution in their future academic and professional pursuits.
