Share

The newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Segun Aina, has launched a comprehensive five-year reform agenda aimed at strengthening governance, expanding digital transformation, and improving service delivery across the board.

Mr. Aina unveiled the roadmap on his first day in office after officially assuming leadership of JAMB, succeeding Professor Is-haq Oloyede, who served as registrar for ten years.

He said the initiative seeks to consolidate the gains of previous reforms while positioning JAMB as Africa’s most trusted, innovative, and accessible assessment and admissions institution.

Five-Year Strategic Development Plan

The reform programme, which will run from 2026 to 2031, is built around what the registrar described as Project 2:5:7, comprising:

  • Two strategic objectives
  • Five core pillars
  • Seven flagship initiatives

According to Aina, the plan aligns with JAMB’s statutory responsibility of providing fair, transparent, and merit-based access to tertiary education through credible examinations and efficient admissions processes.

Five Pillars of the Reform Agenda

1. Integrity

The registrar said the board will strengthen institutional credibility through improved transparency, accountability, and information security.

Key measures include:

  • Pursuing ISO 27001 Information Security Certification.
  • Conducting independent reviews of JAMB’s technology systems.
  • Strengthening mechanisms that promote transparency and public trust.

2. Service Delivery

Improving the experience of candidates and stakeholders will be a major priority.

The board plans to enhance engagement with:

  • Candidates.
  • Parents and guardians.
  • Tertiary institutions.
  • Other education stakeholders.

3. Governance

JAMB intends to reinforce internal governance by strengthening:

  • Performance monitoring.
  • Contract management.
  • Operational resilience.
  • Institutional accountability.

4. Technology

Digital transformation remains central to the new administration’s vision.

The board plans to expand its digital infrastructure through:

  • Scalable technology platforms.
  • Artificial intelligence (AI).
  • Data analytics to improve decision-making and operational efficiency.

5. Strategic Partnerships

The registrar also pledged to deepen collaboration with:

  • Financial institutions.
  • Fintech companies.
  • Educational organizations.
  • International development partners.

These partnerships are expected to drive innovation and improve service delivery.

Seven Flagship Initiatives

To implement the reform agenda, JAMB will introduce seven major initiatives:

  1. Independent review of the board’s technology infrastructure.
  2. Achievement of ISO 27001 Information Security Certification.
  3. Development of a unified JAMB mobile application.
  4. Strategic communication and brand repositioning.
  5. Creation of a unified customer service platform.
  6. Deployment of a fully paperless enterprise-wide digital administration system.
  7. Enhanced staff welfare, training, and capacity development.

According to Aina, these initiatives will make JAMB more secure, efficient, digitally integrated, and responsive to the needs of candidates and institutions.

Technology with a Human Focus

While emphasizing technology as a key driver of institutional transformation, the registrar noted that people remain the board’s greatest asset.

He said every registration represents the hopes of a young Nigerian and the sacrifices made by parents and guardians, adding that the board will continue to simplify admission processes while maintaining fairness, transparency, and integrity.

Commitment to Innovation and Excellence

Mr. Aina called on JAMB staff to embrace innovation, professionalism, collaboration, and shared responsibility in achieving the board’s strategic objectives.

He expressed confidence that the reform agenda would strengthen public confidence in JAMB, improve operational efficiency, and ensure the board continues to provide credible, transparent, and technology-driven assessment and admissions services for Nigerian students.
