The management of the Federal University Oye-Ekiti (FUOYE) has suspended two senior university officials and the Students’ Union Government (SUG) President over allegations of unauthorized financial collections from students.
According to the university registrar, Mufutau Ibrahim, those affected by the suspension are Olanrewaju Ogunjobi, Director of Educational Technology, Innovation and Entrepreneurship; Banji Rildwan Olaleye, Deputy Dean of Student Affairs and Support Services; and James Iyanuoluwa Adio, President of the SUG.
The university disclosed that Ogunjobi and Olaleye allegedly collected ₦1,000 from each first-year student for practical classes organized by the directorate without obtaining the required approval from the university management.
Following complaints, FUOYE constituted an investigative committee to examine the allegations. The committee reportedly found that the collections were made outside the university’s approved financial procedures, which require payments to be processed through the bursary and sanctioned by management.
The registrar stated that all individuals named in the petition were invited to appear before the committee and were given the opportunity to respond to the allegations.
Investigators further alleged that Olaleye supported the unauthorized collections despite his role within the Student Affairs Division.
The SUG President, Adio, was also implicated after investigators claimed he participated in the initial sharing of the funds and later requested a refund. The committee reported that ₦700,000 was transferred into his personal bank account.
FUOYE management described the alleged actions as contrary to the institution’s anti-corruption stance and ongoing efforts to strengthen its reputation.
“The university will not tolerate any form of student exploitation, abuse of office, financial misconduct, or corruption,” the registrar said.
The institution emphasized its commitment to transparency, accountability, and protecting students from unauthorized charges.
