The Presidency has called for legal action against social media personality Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VDM, over an alleged fake audio recording linked to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu circulating online.

Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, accused the influencer of spreading false information through social media platforms, describing the act as a serious misuse of digital media.

Reacting in a post shared on X, Onanuga stated that VDM should face legal consequences for allegedly distributing the controversial audio said to be connected to the President.

“This VDM needs to face the weight of the law for being the conveyor and disseminator of a fake audio of President Tinubu. This is a clear case of an egregious abuse of the social media platform,” he wrote.

The controversy began after an X user identified as Aneex questioned claims that the voice in the viral recording belonged to President Tinubu, describing the content as “cheap propaganda.”

The user also accused VDM of allegedly taking advantage of public emotions to spread misleading information online.

The incident has since generated widespread reactions across social media platforms, with many users debating the authenticity of the audio recording and raising concerns over the growing spread of unverified digital content in Nigeria’s online space.
