Share

President Bola Tinubu has appointed Professor Segun Aina as the new Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).

Aina, a professor of Computer Engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, will officially take over from Professor Ishaq Oloyede when his second tenure ends on July 31, 2026.

Oloyede was first appointed as JAMB registrar in August 2016 by former President Muhammadu Buhari and was reappointed for a second term in 2021.

At 39 years old, Aina is set to become the youngest registrar in JAMB’s history. He is expected to turn 40 in July.

Announcing the appointment, presidential spokesperson Bayo Onanuga described Aina as a respected academic and systems expert with deep experience in examination systems, digital infrastructure, and institutional reform.

According to the presidency, Aina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Systems Engineering from University of Kent, as well as a Master’s degree in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University. He also completed the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

The statement noted that Aina first gained experience with JAMB during his National Youth Service, where he became involved in admissions and data-driven institutional processes. Over the years, he has contributed to examination reforms and digital system improvements across the education sector.

With more than 15 years of professional experience, Aina has advised federal and state governments on technology systems, digital transformation, and institutional reforms. He has also worked with examination bodies such as National Examinations Council (NECO), National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), and several state ministries of education on ICT systems and examination integrity.

Aina is also a member of several professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN), the Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE), the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE), and the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET).

President Tinubu expressed confidence that Aina would use his experience and expertise to strengthen JAMB’s operations and continue reforms in Nigeria’s examination system.
