No fewer than 21,452 applicants certified by the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria have applied for 1,000 rural teaching positions advertised by the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board.

The Executive Chairman of SUBEB, Kassim Mohammed-Kassim, disclosed this in Lafia on Friday, noting the overwhelming response to the recruitment exercise.

He explained that the application process, which began on March 27 and was initially set to close on April 3, has been extended by one week to April 10. According to him, the extension followed complaints from qualified candidates who were unable to complete their applications within the original timeframe.

“The extension became necessary due to the inability of some qualified applicants to apply. We received numerous complaints about difficulties accessing and completing applications due to the short notice on the portal,” he said.

Mohammed-Kassim urged eligible candidates to utilise the extended deadline, assuring that only the most qualified applicants would be shortlisted.

He emphasised that the recruitment is strictly for rural teaching positions, adding that successful candidates will be posted to schools in rural communities across the state. He advised those unwilling to work in such areas to reconsider applying.

The SUBEB chairman further assured that the recruitment process would be transparent and merit-based, stressing that selection would be based solely on qualifications rather than personal connections or background.
