Usmanu Danfodiyo University (UDUS) has dismissed a staff member over misconduct linked to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilisation process.
The decision was reached during the university’s 176th Governing Council meeting held on April 1, 2026.
The affected staff member, Malam Garba Ahmed, previously worked in the Registry Department. He was found guilty of enrolling students who did not meet the eligibility requirements for NYSC mobilisation an act the university described as a serious violation of professional standards.
According to an official bulletin, an internal investigation uncovered that Ahmed was involved in the unauthorized uploading of names of unqualified candidates, breaching both university regulations and NYSC guidelines.
Confirming the development, UDUS Director of Information and Public Relations, Ismaila Mohammed Yauri, stated that the Governing Council approved the dismissal following due process.
“The Governing Council approved the dismissal of Malam Garba Ahmed after he was found guilty of illegally uploading unqualified students for NYSC mobilisation,” he said.
He noted that the decision takes immediate effect and reflects the institution’s commitment to accountability and ethical conduct.
Yauri also emphasized that the university adhered strictly to due process during the investigation, reiterating its zero-tolerance stance on misconduct.
“The university maintains a zero-tolerance policy towards acts of serious or gross misconduct,” he added, stressing that the action is part of broader efforts to ensure transparency and sustain public trust in the institution.
The dismissal is considered one of the strongest disciplinary actions taken by UDUS in recent years and serves as a warning to staff across Nigerian tertiary institutions about the consequences of violating established procedures.
The university has further urged its staff to uphold professional ethics and strictly follow official guidelines in their duties, while reaffirming its commitment to protecting the integrity of its academic and administrative systems.
Officials also indicated that additional safeguards may be introduced to prevent future irregularities and ensure that all NYSC mobilisation processes fully comply with regulatory standards.
