The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has debunked a viral press release claiming that the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) has been postponed, describing the information as false and misleading.
In a statement released on Saturday, the board urged candidates and the general public to ignore the fake announcement.
“Our attention has been drawn to a malicious press release suggesting that the 2026 UTME has been postponed. This information is entirely false and did not originate from us. Candidates are advised to disregard it, as all UTME activities will proceed as scheduled,” the statement read.
JAMB had earlier confirmed that the 2026 UTME will take place from Thursday, April 16 to Saturday, April 25, 2026.
The clarification comes shortly after the mock UTME conducted on Saturday, March 28, which experienced technical issues in some Computer-Based Test (CBT) centres across the country.
Out of the 224,597 candidates who registered for the mock exam, 152,586 successfully completed the test in 989 CBT centres nationwide.
JAMB also revealed that more than 20 CBT centres affected by technical problems have been delisted due to inadequate infrastructure.
Additionally, the board warned candidates to stay away from fraudsters, especially those on WhatsApp claiming they can manipulate or increase UTME scores.
“Such claims are not only false but criminal. Any candidate found engaging in such activities risks having their registration cancelled or results withheld,” JAMB cautioned.
