The Ondo State Government has formally commended the Manuwa Memorial Grammar School (MMGS) Old Students’ Association for its robust partnership in advancing education. The state highlighted the alumni’s commitment to infrastructural renewal and the provision of modern learning aids at the 72-year-old institution in Iju Odo.
Speaking at the 2026 Annual Reunion, Commissioner for Education Prof. Igbekele Ajibefun lauded the association’s efforts, noting that their work aligns perfectly with Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s mission to restore the state’s educational glory.
Restoring the Boarding System and Empowering Girls
A central highlight of the alumni’s intervention is the rebuilding of the long-defunct girls’ hostel. Prof. Ajibefun emphasized that this project is a critical step toward restoring the school’s boarding system, which has been dormant for decades.
Strategic Benefits of the Boarding System:
-
Academic Excellence: Historically linked to higher performance in external examinations.
-
Character Building: Provides a foundation for sound moral virtues and discipline.
-
Global Alignment: Supports United Nations goals for girls’ education, which Nigeria has committed to domesticating at the state level.
Major Project Commissions
During the event, the Commissioner officially inaugurated a multimillion-naira modern Corps Members’ Lodge, built entirely by the alumni association. This facility is expected to attract and retain quality teaching talent from the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC).
“Boarding school systems have long been the bedrock of academic excellence, especially when monitored by committed associations like MMGSOSA,” Prof. Ajibefun remarked.
The Vision: “Making Manuwa Great Again”
