Kogi State Governor, Usman Ododo, has given ₦20,000 each to 1,490 National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members deployed to the state, bringing the total financial support to ₦29.8 million.
The donation is aimed at helping the corps members meet transportation costs and other immediate needs as they begin their primary assignments across Kogi State.
The gesture was announced during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’, Stream II NYSC Orientation Course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Asaya, Kabba.
Represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Aridaojo Anyebe, Governor Ododo reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to youth development and empowerment.
The governor urged the corps members to settle responsibly in their host communities and apply the knowledge and skills acquired during the orientation course to support community development.
He also encouraged them to become agents of positive change, contribute to local initiatives and share useful knowledge with members of their host communities.
“This administration would continue to strengthen and add value to youth empowerment initiatives aimed at improving productivity, self-reliance and the overall development of young people in the state,” Ododo said.
The governor further assured the corps members of his administration’s commitment to their safety and welfare throughout their service year, while appealing to host communities to provide a welcoming and supportive environment.
The Kogi State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Chris Tochi, commended the governor for his continued support for corps members, describing the latest intervention as timely.
She said the corps members had completed three weeks of physical, mental and moral reorientation designed to prepare them for a successful service year.
A total of 1,490 corps members participated in the 2026 Batch ‘B’, Stream II orientation programme in Kogi State.
