The management of the Nigerian Law School has commenced an investigation into the death of Faith Alayande, a 23-year-old law student, who died after falling from the rooftop of a hostel at the institution’s Lagos campus.
Alayande, a student of the Nigerian Law School’s Enugu Campus, was undergoing an externship programme at the Lagos campus when the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday, August 7, 2026.
In a statement issued on Monday, the Secretary to the Council and Director of Administration, Aderonke Osho, said preliminary findings indicated that the student fell from the hostel rooftop at about 4:00am.
The statement said the student sustained injuries from the fall and was later pronounced dead.
“The Nigerian Law School is deeply saddened by this tragic development,” the management said.
According to the institution, it is working with the appropriate authorities and the deceased’s family to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and ensure that all necessary procedures are followed.
The management expressed condolences to Alayande’s family, colleagues and others affected by the tragedy.
It also disclosed that the family had requested privacy and appealed to members of the public and the media to respect their wishes as they mourn their loss.
The Lagos State Police Command also confirmed the incident, stating that the hostel matron reported finding the student unresponsive on the premises.
Police operatives visited the scene and evacuated the deceased’s body to a morgue, while an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death continues.
The Nigerian Law School reaffirmed its commitment to the safety, welfare and wellbeing of its students and staff.
The institution said it would provide further information as appropriate once relevant facts surrounding the incident are established.
