The University of Ibadan has opened a special admission window under its Open, Distance and eLearning (ODeL) programme, offering qualified candidates who could not secure conventional admission an alternative route to earn a university degree.
The initiative is targeted at candidates who participated in the university’s Post-UTME screening but were unable to gain admission through the traditional face-to-face programme due to admission quotas and limited physical spaces on campus.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Director of the University of Ibadan Distance Learning Centre, Prof. Olufade Onifade, said applications for the special 2025/2026 academic session would close on August 15, 2026, while classes for the special cohort are scheduled to begin on August 17, 2026.
According to Onifade, candidates who participated in the UI Post-UTME examination can switch from the conventional mode of study to the ODeL programme at no cost.
The university explained that the ODeL programme provides flexible virtual classes, mobile learning, interactive course materials and physical revision sessions. Students are taught by the same faculty members who teach conventional programmes and graduate with University of Ibadan degrees.
The programme offers first-degree courses across several disciplines, including Computer Science, Statistics, Psychology, Economics, Political Science, Sociology, English, Communication and Language Arts, Educational Management, and Social Work, among others.
Candidates who participated in the 2026 UI Post-UTME are eligible for the free change-of-mode offer and are required to visit the university’s official change-of-mode application portal to switch from the conventional on-campus option to ODeL.
Other qualified candidates who did not participate in the Post-UTME can also apply for the special cohort through a fresh application.
The university urged interested candidates to take advantage of the opportunity before the August 15 deadline, noting that available spaces are expected to fill quickly.
