Prof. Chinwe Obaji says Aina inherits a legacy built on integrity, transparency and innovation
A former Minister of Education, Prof. Chinwe Obaji, has urged the newly appointed Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Segun Aina, to preserve and strengthen the reforms introduced by his predecessor, Prof. Is’haq Oloyede.
Speaking in a telephone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Sunday in Lagos, Obaji said Aina was inheriting not just an office, but a decade-long legacy founded on integrity, accountability, transparency and public trust.
She described the foundation laid by Oloyede as strong and worthy of preservation, stressing that the incoming registrar should focus on building on existing achievements rather than dismantling successful reforms.
“The true measure of leadership is not in dismantling what works, but in strengthening it and preparing it for greater service,” she said.
Obaji urged the new JAMB boss to lead with humility and courage, adding that technology should continue to promote justice and fairness rather than mere convenience.
“A wise builder does not uproot a solid foundation; rather, he builds upon it and leaves the house stronger than he met it,” she stated.
According to the former minister, any improvements introduced under Aina’s leadership should be driven by wisdom, broad consultation and an unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s national interest.
She expressed confidence in Aina’s capacity to lead the examination body, describing him as a competent administrator with the experience and character needed to take JAMB to greater heights.
“Nigerians look up to his leadership with great hope and expectation. May their confidence be rewarded by policies and actions that deepen merit, fairness, efficiency and public confidence in our educational system,” Obaji said.
She further noted that institutions should outlive individuals, adding that lasting success lies not only in policy reforms but also in building a culture of integrity, innovation and selfless service that endures beyond any administration.
Obaji also prayed for wisdom, strength, discernment and good health for the new registrar as he assumes office.
Prof. Oloyede officially retired on July 31, 2026, after completing two five-year terms as JAMB Registrar. He was first appointed in August 2016 by former President Muhammadu Buhari and formally handed over the leadership of the examination body to Prof. Segun Aina.
