A teacher killed during the recent attack on schools in Oyo State has been laid to rest in Ogbomoso as the state government introduced emergency safety measures across schools.
The deceased, Adesiyan Adegboye, 49, was buried after a funeral service held at Ayegun Baptist Church in Ogbomoso. He was later laid to rest at his residence in the Owolake area of the town.
Adegboye was among those killed when armed bandits attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School, Yawota, Community Grammar School, and L.A. Primary School, Esiele, in Oriire Local Government Area last Friday.
The coordinated attacks led to the abduction of several students and teachers, creating widespread fear across Ogbomoso and neighbouring communities.
Following the incident, many parents reportedly rushed to schools to withdraw their children over fears of further attacks, while some schools temporarily shut down amid growing tension.
Rumours also circulated alleging that bandits had invaded the Ladoke Akintola University of Technology, although the institution later dismissed the claims as false.
In response to the security situation, the Oyo State Ministry of Education, Science, and Technology announced the indefinite suspension of all school excursions, field trips, sports competitions, and other activities requiring students to leave school premises.
The directive was contained in a circular signed by the Permanent Secretary of the ministry, B.T. Oyinloye, and addressed to education officials, school principals, and head teachers across the state.
According to the circular, the decision became necessary due to recent security concerns and the need to protect students and staff members.
The ministry also instructed school administrators to ensure students remain within school premises during school hours and to immediately report any suspicious activities around schools to security agencies.
The government stated that all previously approved external school activities have been suspended until further notice and that the directive will remain in effect pending improvement in the security situation.
The latest measures come amid growing anxiety over the safety of schools and educational institutions in Oyo State following the deadly Ogbomoso attack.
