FG Launches 2026 PTDF Overseas Scholarships for Nigerian Postgraduates

The Federal Government has opened applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) Overseas Scholarship Scheme, offering Nigerian postgraduate students the opportunity to study in the United Kingdom, Germany, France, and Malaysia.

The announcement was confirmed on Monday via a post on X (formerly Twitter) by the Office of the Special Adviser to the President on Social Media, Dada Olusegun.

“FG has announced the commencement of applications for the 2026 Petroleum Technology Development Fund (PTDF) overseas scholarships,” the post stated.

According to information published on the PTDF website, the scheme is designed for MSc and PhD candidates in oil and gas–related disciplines. Successful applicants will benefit from comprehensive funding covering tuition, return flight tickets, accommodation and living allowances, health insurance, and bench fees where applicable.

The Fund explained that the 2026 Overseas MSc and PhD Scholarships aim to provide access to world-class training, advanced research facilities, and global expertise, while strengthening indigenous capacity within Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.

For PhD candidates applying to study in the United Kingdom, the programme will adopt a split-site arrangement. This allows research to be conducted between the College of Petroleum and Energy Studies, Kaduna (CPESK), and selected UK partner institutions, including Robert Gordon University, the University of Strathclyde, and the University of Portsmouth.

PTDF emphasised that the scholarships are highly competitive, noting that only candidates who demonstrate exceptional merit and suitability will be selected. Evaluation will be based on academic qualifications, research proposals, professional body membership, and the relevance of the proposed course of study to the oil and gas industry.

Eligibility requirements for MSc applicants include a minimum of a Second Class Lower (2.2) degree or Second Class Upper (2.1), completion of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) programme, computer literacy, and at least five O’Level credits, including English Language and Mathematics. PhD applicants are additionally required to submit a research proposal of no more than five pages detailing their objectives, methodology, and data collection strategy.

The Fund further warned that all applicants must verify their National Identification Number (NIN) before applying, stressing that multiple applications or the submission of falsified documents will lead to automatic disqualification.

Interested candidates are to apply online via scholarship.ptdf.gov.ng for approved programmes at PTDF partner institutions. The application deadline is 27 February.
