The Federal Government has proposed a harmonised timetable for major public examinations in 2027, with the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) scheduled for March and other secondary school examinations expected to run between April and July.
The proposed arrangement is designed to improve coordination among examination bodies, minimise timetable clashes and ensure the timely release of results, allowing eligible candidates to begin tertiary admission processes by September 2027.
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) announced the proposed timetable on its social media platforms on Thursday.
Proposed 2027 Examination Timetable
Under the proposed schedule, the UTME will hold from March 15 to 25, 2027.
The National Examinations Council (NECO) Senior School Certificate Examination is scheduled for April 1 to May 14, while the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) examination is proposed to run from May 11 to June 18.
Other examinations include the National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB), scheduled for June 1 to July 5, and the National Board for Arabic and Islamic Studies (NBAIS), expected to conduct its examinations from June 10 to July 9.
The proposed timetable places some examinations within overlapping periods, making coordination among the examination bodies essential.
Government Targets September 2027 Admissions
According to JAMB, the Federal Government is working with the relevant examination bodies to align their schedules and facilitate the timely processing and release of results.
The board said the initiative aims to reduce examination timetable conflicts, improve coordination, accelerate result processing and enable qualified candidates to commence tertiary admission processes by September 2027.
If implemented, the plan could help candidates transition from secondary school examinations to university and other tertiary institution admissions within a more coordinated timeframe.
Dates Not Yet Final
JAMB stressed that the published dates remain proposed timelines and have not been confirmed as final examination dates.
Candidates are therefore advised to monitor official announcements from JAMB, WAEC, NECO, NABTEB and NBAIS for updates and confirmation of the 2027 examination schedules.
