The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), in partnership with Rite Foods Limited, will honour seven exceptional Nigerian undergraduates with ₦5 million each at its maiden Academic Excellence Recognition Award Ceremony, scheduled to hold on Tuesday in Lagos.

The award initiative is designed to celebrate students who demonstrated outstanding academic excellence during the 2025 admission exercise, recognizing those who excelled in both the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) and their respective universities’ Post-UTME or admission screening.

According to a statement issued on Sunday by JAMB’s Public Communication Adviser, Fabian Benjamin, each award recipient was selected through a transparent, rigorous, and merit-based process coordinated by the examination body.

“Each of the seven award recipients will receive ₦5 million in recognition of their exceptional performance in both the UTME and the respective Post-UTME or institutional screening exercises conducted by their admitting universities,” the statement said.

Six of the winners represent Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones, while the seventh award will be presented to the highest-performing admitted candidate living with a disability.

The beneficiaries are students of:

  • University of Lagos (South-West)
  • University of Uyo (South-South)
  • Federal University of Technology, Owerri (South-East)
  • Federal University of Applied Sciences, Kachia (North-West)
  • University of Maiduguri (North-East)
  • Federal University of Technology, Minna (North-Central)

Notably, the University of Lagos is the only institution with two award recipients, as it also produced the nation’s highest-performing admitted student living with a disability.

The ceremony is expected to attract more than 300 distinguished guests, including the Minister of Education, JAMB Registrar Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, vice-chancellors, heads of regulatory agencies, principal officers of tertiary institutions, education stakeholders, development partners, corporate executives, students, and members of the media.

JAMB said its collaboration with Rite Foods underscores a shared commitment to promoting academic excellence, rewarding merit, and inspiring young Nigerians to strive for exceptional educational achievement.
