The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE), with a total of 186,291 candidates participating in the nationwide exercise.

The candidates sat for examinations in 12 subjects and were drawn from all 36 states of the federation, the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), as well as five foreign countries.

The examination commenced on April 20, 2026, and concluded successfully on April 30, 2026. Approval for the release of the results was granted following the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting held on Thursday at NECO’s headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

Speaking at the meeting, the Chairperson of the Award Committee and Director of Basic Education at the Federal Ministry of Education, Folake David, who represented the Minister of Education, Tunji Alausa, expressed satisfaction with the smooth conduct of the examination and the timely processing and release of the results.

The meeting was attended by secondary school principals from across the country alongside members of NECO’s management team.

NECO Announces Re-Sit Examination Dates

In a move aimed at supporting candidates with outstanding deficiencies, the Award Committee approved July 22 and 23, 2026, for the conduct of the BECE Re-Sit Examination in Mathematics and English Studies.

According to NECO, the re-sit exercise is specifically designed for candidates who recorded conditional deficiencies in Mathematics, English Studies, or both subjects.

The Council explained that the examination provides affected candidates with an opportunity to address their deficiencies and secure the required certification for admission into Senior Secondary School One (SSS I) without having to repeat an entire academic session.

NECO reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining credible assessment standards while ensuring that eligible candidates are given every opportunity to continue their academic progression successfully.
