APPLY NOW: U.S. Mission Opens 2026 EducationUSA Opportunity Fund Programme for Outstanding Nigerian Students

The United States Mission in Nigeria has announced the opening of applications for the 2026 EducationUSA Opportunity Fund Programme (OFP), offering exceptional Nigerian students the chance to pursue higher education opportunities in the United States with financial support.

According to a notice issued by the U.S. Embassy and Consulate in Nigeria, applications opened on June 15, 2026, and will close on June 30, 2026.

The programme, coordinated by EducationUSA Nigeria under the Public Diplomacy Section of the U.S. Mission, is designed to support academically outstanding Nigerian students who demonstrate strong leadership potential and aspire to study in the United States.

The initiative seeks to expand access to U.S. higher education while promoting educational exchange and strengthening the longstanding relationship between Nigeria and the United States.

The U.S. Mission noted that the 2026 cohort aligns with the Freedom 250 Celebration, commemorating 250 years of American leadership, innovation, and democratic values.

“Freedom 250 marks 250 years of American leadership, innovation, and democratic values, and the OFP 2026 cohort will advance these priorities by preparing globally competitive talents aligned with U.S. economic and strategic interests,” the statement said.

Priority consideration will be given to high-achieving students pursuing fields that align with strategic development and innovation priorities.

Selected participants will receive support for key application expenses, including:

• Standardized testing fees
• University application fees
• Other essential pre-admission costs

To qualify, applicants must demonstrate:

• Outstanding academic performance
• Strong leadership potential
• Commitment to pursuing higher education in the United States
• Significant achievements and extracurricular involvement
• Research capability and intellectual curiosity
• Commitment to visa compliance and responsible participation in exchange programmes

The U.S. Mission emphasized that successful applicants will be expected to maintain high ethical standards throughout their participation in the programme.

Interested candidates are required to submit a completed application form, academic transcripts, a personal statement, evidence of leadership and achievements, research-related accomplishments, and other supporting documents before the application deadline.

Application Deadline: June 30, 2026
