Members of the Non-Academic Staff Union of Educational and Associated Institutions (NASU) and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU) at the University of Jos on Monday staged a peaceful protest over unresolved welfare issues and delays in the renegotiation of agreements with the Federal Government.

The demonstrators moved from the institution’s main gate to the Senate Building, chanting solidarity songs and calling for improved welfare packages, alongside the implementation of previously reached agreements.

The protest follows a nationwide strike declared by the Joint Action Committee of NASU and SSANU, which directed members in universities and inter-university centres to embark on a total and indefinite industrial action beginning May 1, 2026.

Union leaders explained that the decision came after a meeting with the Federal Ministry of Education failed to yield a new proposal or a definite timeline for concluding the renegotiation of the 2009 agreement covering non-teaching staff.

They reiterated that the strike would continue until their demands are fully addressed.
