The Bayelsa Education Development Trust Fund (BEDTF) on Wednesday donated key items to the Bayelsa College of Nursing Sciences, Tombia-Ekpetiama, to support student welfare and improve learning conditions.

The donation included 100 double-bunk beds, 200 mattresses, and 10 laptops. Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of BEDTF, Ebimieowei Etebu, explained that the gesture aligns with the fund’s mission to strengthen educational infrastructure across the state.

He reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to creating better learning environments, noting that students—especially those in demanding professional fields like nursing—require adequate comfort and rest to perform well academically.

“This intervention reflects our belief that a good learning environment directly influences the quality of education. As Benjamin Franklin once said, an investment in knowledge pays the best interest,” Etebu stated.

Also speaking, the Chairman of the Bayelsa House of Assembly Committee on Education, Charles Daniel, commended BEDTF for the initiative, saying it would significantly improve teaching and learning in the institution.

Traditional leaders also praised the effort. The Chairman of the Bayelsa Traditional Rulers Council and Ibenanaowei of Ekpetiama Kingdom, Bubaraye Dakolo—represented by the Amananaowei of Gbarantoru, Igonia Dakolo—applauded the state government and called on other organisations and individuals to support educational development in the state.

In his remarks, the Chairman of the BEDTF Board, Fidelis Agbiki, urged the school management to handle the items responsibly. He warned against misuse, particularly the diversion of laptops for personal purposes, stressing that the fund has monitoring systems in place to ensure accountability.
