Plateau State University (PLASU), Bokkos, has appointed two female academics as Deputy Vice-Chancellors, making the institution the second Nigerian university to have two women serving simultaneously in the positions.
The appointments were announced by the university’s Public Relations Officer, Masara Kim, in a statement made available to The PUNCH in Jos on Friday.
The appointments were approved at the university’s 106th Special Senate Meeting, held on Tuesday, September 29, 2026, under the leadership of the Vice-Chancellor and Chairman of Senate, Professor Shedrack Best.
Associate Professor Keziah Y. Ayuba was reappointed as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, for a second two-year term, while Associate Professor Martha Niri Choji was appointed Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, for her first term.
Choji succeeds Professor Pyefa Galadima, who completed two terms as DVC Academic after serving in the position from 2022.
According to the university, the appointments followed nominations by the Vice-Chancellor in line with Section 5 of the First Schedule of the University Law and were unanimously approved by Senate.
PLASU Joins University of Ibadan
With the appointments, PLASU joins the University of Ibadan, which became the first Nigerian university to have two female Deputy Vice-Chancellors serving at the same time in November 2021.
Professor Choji brings extensive administrative experience to her new role. She has previously served as Head of the Department of Mathematics, Head of the Remedial Science Programme, and Head of the newly established Department of Statistics.
Speaking on the appointments, Vice-Chancellor Professor Shedrack Best said the nominations reflected his administration’s commitment to equity, inclusivity and merit.
He expressed confidence in the new DVCs and urged them to immediately settle into their responsibilities as the university prepares for a new academic session and the accreditation of 11 academic programmes.
The Vice-Chancellor also commended the outgoing DVC Academic, Professor Moses Galadima, for his contributions to the university, particularly in academic programme accreditation, examinations, postgraduate programmes and digital transformation.
He specifically highlighted Galadima’s involvement in the digitisation of student registration and transcript processes, as well as efforts to strengthen fee payment and examination administration.
Responding on behalf of the new DVCs, Professor Ayuba thanked the Senate and Vice-Chancellor for the opportunity to serve and pledged to support the administration’s vision.
“Together as a team, all things are possible,” she said.
