79,503 candidates secure five credits including English and Mathematics as examination malpractice cases decline

The National Business and Technical Examinations Board (NABTEB) has released the results of the 2026 June/July National Business Certificate (NBC) and National Technical Certificate (NTC) examinations, recording an 81.24 per cent pass rate in five credits including English Language and Mathematics.
NABTEB Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Dr Aminu Mohammed, announced the results on Wednesday during a news conference in Benin.
According to him, 79,503 candidates, representing 81.24 per cent of the 97,863 candidates graded, obtained five credits and above, including English Language and Mathematics.
The figure represents a significant improvement from the 68.18 per cent recorded in the 2025 examination, when 61,104 candidates achieved the same benchmark.
Mohammed attributed the improvement to the collective efforts of candidates, teachers, schools, parents and other stakeholders within the education system.
91.53% Secure Five Credits and Above
The NABTEB chief also disclosed that 89,580 candidates, representing 91.53 per cent of those graded, obtained five credits and above, regardless of whether the credits included English Language and Mathematics.
This also represents an improvement over the 83.28 per cent recorded under the same category in 2025.
The board further certified 24,128 candidates, representing 24.65 per cent of those graded, as craftsmen.
Over 97% Candidates Sat for Examination
Mohammed said a total of 100,069 candidates registered for the 2026 examinations, while 97,867 candidates actually sat for the examinations, representing a 97.80 per cent attendance rate.
He noted that the results were released 52 days after the final examination paper, describing the turnaround time as evidence of NABTEB’s commitment to timely service delivery.
847 Candidates Involved in Examination Malpractice
The registrar disclosed that 847 candidates were involved in examination malpractice, with 1,554 incidents recorded.
The figure represents approximately 1.55 per cent of candidates who sat for the examinations and is lower than the previous year’s record.
Mohammed said the decline indicated that measures introduced by the board to curb examination malpractice were producing positive results.
He commended stakeholders for their cooperation in maintaining the integrity of the examinations.
NABTEB Warns Candidates Against Result Fraud
The board advised candidates to check their results only through NABTEB’s official result-checking platform.
Mohammed also warned candidates against individuals or groups claiming they could alter, upgrade or manipulate examination results.
He stressed that no individual has the authority to change a legitimately awarded result.
The registrar urged candidates to disregard such offers and rely solely on official NABTEB channels for accessing and verifying their results.
