North-Eastern University Gombe Approves Up to 65% Salary Increase for Staff

Share

North-Eastern University (NEU), Gombe State, has announced a salary increase of between 40% and 65% for all categories of staff, effective immediately.

The adjustment was approved by the university’s Pro-Chancellor and Founder, Dr Sani Jauro, according to a statement signed by the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Mukhtar Sani Saulawa.

The university described the latest adjustment as the third major salary increase introduced by its founder within three years.

The increment comes as the university prepares to graduate its pioneer set of students and holds its maiden convocation ceremony, scheduled for November or December 2026.

According to the university, staff salaries were previously increased by up to 35% in October 2023, followed by another 20% increase in 2024 after the institution secured full accreditation for all its programmes during the October 2024 National Universities Commission exercise, recording an aggregate score of 91.4%.

Explaining the latest salary review, Jauro said the decision was motivated by his commitment to staff welfare and the pursuit of academic excellence.

“The success of a university is ultimately measured by the quality of the people who teach, support and sustain it.

“This gesture is both a recognition of what our staff have accomplished and an investment in what we expect to achieve in the years ahead.”

University Announces 50% Scholarship for Six Programmes

In a related development, North-Eastern University announced a 50% scholarship for students admitted into six academic programmes.

The programmes are:

  • B.Sc. Petroleum Chemistry
  • B.Sc. Environmental Management and Toxicology
  • B.Sc. Industrial Chemistry
  • B.Sc. Microbiology
  • B.Sc. Biotechnology
  • B.Sc. Urban and Regional Planning

The university said the programmes were selected because of their relevance to the petroleum and energy sector, as well as wider industrial and environmental activities associated with petroleum development.

It particularly highlighted emerging opportunities around the Kolmani area of Gombe and Bauchi States and the wider North-East region.

Architecture Programme Gets Full ARCON Accreditation

The university also announced that its Architecture programme has secured full accreditation from the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON).

The institution said the achievement makes North-Eastern University the only university in the North-East currently holding the accreditation.

The university said the latest developments reflect its broader efforts to strengthen staff welfare, expand academic opportunities and position the institution as a leading centre for higher education in the North-East.
