Bauchi Government to Crack Down on Illegal Private Schools

Share

The Bauchi State Government has concluded plans to establish a mobile court to prosecute proprietors of unregistered private schools operating across the state as part of efforts to improve education standards and enforce regulatory compliance.

The Commissioner for Education, Dr. Abdulkadir Ibrahim, disclosed this during an inspection tour of selected private schools within the Bauchi metropolis.

According to the commissioner, the proposed mobile court will be established in collaboration with the Bauchi State Ministry of Justice and the Bauchi State House of Assembly to ensure swift prosecution of operators violating education regulations.

He explained that the initiative forms part of the government’s broader strategy to sanitize the education sector and ensure that all private schools meet the minimum standards required for operation.

Majority of Inspected Schools Operating Illegally

Dr. Ibrahim revealed that the Ministry of Education inspected 47 private schools, but only 17 were found to be properly registered with the state government.

The remaining 30 schools were discovered to be operating without official approval, in violation of the state’s education regulations.

He warned that proprietors of unregistered schools would face legal action, including possible prosecution through the proposed mobile court and closure of their institutions if they fail to comply with the law.

Government Seeks Better Education Standards

While emphasizing enforcement, the commissioner assured that the government would continue working closely with registered and compliant private schools to improve the quality of education across the state.

He noted that ensuring all schools operate within approved standards is essential to providing learners with safe learning environments and quality educational services.

During the inspection, the commissioner commended the management of Sunshine International Schools and Dolphin Maria College for complying with the state’s registration requirements and maintaining acceptable operational standards.

He encouraged other private school proprietors to regularize their registration and comply with government regulations to avoid sanctions.

School Proprietors Welcome Inspection

The proprietors of the compliant schools expressed appreciation to the commissioner for the inspection exercise, describing it as a significant step toward strengthening the education sector in Bauchi State.

They also pledged continued cooperation with the Ministry of Education in promoting quality education and ensuring compliance with established standards.

The inspection team included the Permanent Secretary and other senior officials of the Bauchi State Ministry of Education, who participated in assessing the operational status and compliance of the selected private schools.
