The Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, will headline discussions on the achievements, reforms, and ongoing challenges in Nigeria’s education sector under the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the 2026 Education Summit organised by the Education Correspondents Association of Nigeria (ECAN).
The announcement was made by ECAN Chairman, Mr. Chux Ukwuatu, in a statement released on Monday. He disclosed that the summit will take place on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, at Barcelona Hotel, Wuse II, Abuja.
The summit is themed “Three Years of the Tinubu Administration: Assessing Reforms, Progress, and Challenges in Nigeria’s Education Sector.”
According to ECAN, the event will bring together key stakeholders, including government officials, education policymakers, academics, development partners, researchers, school administrators, civil society organisations, student representatives, and media practitioners to evaluate the impact of the Federal Government’s education reforms over the past three years.
The association noted that the gathering is expected to provide a platform for meaningful discussions on policy implementation, achievements recorded so far, and practical solutions to the challenges still facing the education sector.
Dr. Alausa is expected to formally declare the summit open and lead conversations on the government’s efforts to improve access to quality education, strengthen institutions, and advance human capital development across the country.
Beyond policy discussions, the summit will also recognise individuals and institutions that have demonstrated exceptional leadership and contributed significantly to the growth of Nigeria’s education sector.
Among those expected to receive awards are the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa; the Executive Secretary of the National Universities Commission (NUC), Prof. Abdullahi Ribadu; the Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund), Sonny Echono; the Registrar of the National Examinations Council (NECO), Prof. Ibrahim Wushishi; and the Registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, alongside other distinguished education stakeholders.
ECAN said the awards are intended to honour recipients for their visionary leadership, commitment to educational development, and contributions to strengthening Nigeria’s human capital through education.
