The MTN Foundation and the Musical Society of Nigeria (MUSON) are set to celebrate the graduation of the 2026 MUSON School of Music class with a two-day event scheduled for July 7 and July 8 at the Shell Hall, MUSON Centre in Lagos.
The graduation programme will feature a special concert alongside a formal ceremony to honour students who have successfully completed the institution’s Diploma in Music programme.
Nearly Two Decades of Empowering Young Musicians
The graduation also marks another milestone in the long-standing collaboration between the MTN Foundation and MUSON, a partnership that has been nurturing young musical talents and strengthening Nigeria’s creative industry since 2006.
Through the MTN MUSON Music Scholars Programme, more than 553 young Nigerians have received scholarships, giving them access to quality music education, professional training, and opportunities to build careers in the country’s growing creative sector.
Each year, the initiative sponsors approximately 45 students to undertake a two-year diploma programme focused on developing both artistic excellence and industry-ready skills.
Building Careers Through Quality Music Education
The programme combines comprehensive music theory, performance training, ensemble practice, and practical industry experience to prepare graduates for careers in music performance, production, education, composition, and other areas within the creative economy.
By equipping students with technical expertise and professional exposure, the initiative continues to create a steady pipeline of skilled musicians capable of contributing to Nigeria’s expanding entertainment and cultural industries.
Significant Investment in Creative Development
Beyond awarding scholarships, the MTN Foundation has made substantial investments to improve learning facilities at the MUSON School of Music.
According to reports, the Foundation has committed nearly ₦1 billion to the partnership over the years. The investment includes the establishment of a fully equipped digital music studio and the provision of modern musical instruments and learning equipment to enhance students’ educational experience.
Supporting Nigeria’s Creative Economy
The 2026 graduation ceremony is expected to showcase a new generation of talented musicians ready to enter the creative industry while highlighting the importance of structured music education in promoting employment, skills development, and cultural innovation.
As Nigeria’s creative economy continues to gain global recognition, the enduring partnership between the MTN Foundation and MUSON remains a strong example of how sustained investment in talent development can create lasting opportunities for young people and contribute to the country’s cultural and economic growth.
