Nigeria has officially begun implementing a 30-day visa-free entry policy for citizens of Rwanda, in a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic relations and boosting regional mobility across Africa.
According to the Nigeria Immigration Service, the new arrangement allows Rwandan nationals to enter Nigeria without a visa for short stays of up to 30 days. The policy is part of broader efforts to deepen bilateral cooperation and promote ease of movement for business, tourism, and official engagements.
The announcement follows discussions between President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and President Paul Kagame, where both leaders explored partnerships in trade, governance, and capacity building. The agreement also reflects Rwanda’s reciprocal openness to Nigerian travellers.
Under the new directive, Rwandan visitors may enter Nigeria for lawful purposes such as tourism, business activities, and official visits, provided their stay does not exceed 30 days. Authorities stressed that any visitor intending to remain beyond the approved period must apply for the appropriate visa through Nigerian embassies or use the country’s e-visa system.
The immigration authority has instructed all entry points—including airports, land borders, and seaports—to immediately begin enforcing the policy in line with presidential approval.
Officials described the initiative as a step toward advancing intra-African integration, improving tourism flows, and supporting economic cooperation between both countries. They also reaffirmed that the policy is aligned with Nigeria’s broader migration management framework under its national development agenda.
While welcoming the development, authorities reiterated that immigration laws remain in force and compliance with entry conditions is mandatory for all travellers.
