OPay has expanded its nationwide scholarship initiative by signing new Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) with four additional tertiary institutions across Nigeria, further increasing access to its ₦1.2 billion 10-year scholarship programme.

The newly added institutions include Benue State Polytechnic, Kogi State Polytechnic, Montgomery Polytechnic, and Alex Ekwueme Federal University. With this latest expansion, the fintech company now partners with 24 tertiary institutions nationwide.

As part of the scholarship scheme, OPay will provide annual scholarships worth ₦300,000 each to 20 students in every participating institution. The programme is targeted at academically outstanding students from financially disadvantaged backgrounds, helping them pursue their education with reduced financial pressure.

The ₦1.2 billion initiative, designed to run for 10 years, reflects the company’s continued investment in education and youth empowerment. Since its launch, the programme has steadily expanded to reach more campuses and communities across the country, giving hundreds of students access to educational support.

Speaking during the MoU signing ceremony, Corporate Social Responsibility Manager at OPay, Itoro Udo, said education remains one of the strongest tools for transforming lives and creating opportunities for young people.

According to her, the company is committed to supporting students who possess the determination to succeed but lack the financial resources to fully pursue their academic goals. She added that OPay will continue to broaden the initiative to impact more institutions and communities nationwide.

Through its growing scholarship partnerships, OPay says it remains focused on promoting inclusive access to education and financial services in Nigeria.

Founded in 2018, OPay is one of Nigeria’s leading fintech platforms, offering services such as money transfers, bill payments, airtime and data purchases, card services, and merchant solutions. The company is licensed by the Central Bank of Nigeria and insured by the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation.
