The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), University of Jos branch, has announced an indefinite and total withdrawal of services over the non-payment of March 2026 salaries and the omission of the Earned Academic Allowance (EAA) from staff pay.
In a statement released on Wednesday, the branch chairperson, Jurbe Molwus, directed members to immediately boycott lectures, examinations, and all statutory meetings.
The strike, which takes effect from Wednesday, April 8, 2026, aligns with resolutions reached by the union’s National Executive Council (NEC) and the local congress.
According to ASUU UNIJOS, the action follows months of patience by members despite persistent delays in salary payments.
“After following due process, we hereby request all members to abstain from lectures, the conduct of exams, and statutory meetings, as our salary for March 2026 is yet to be paid despite our patience,” the statement noted.
The union blamed the delay on the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, stating that the university’s bursary department had already fulfilled its responsibilities in the payment process.
“Our findings indicate that the delay is caused by the Office of the Accountant General of the Federation, as the university bursary has completed its part,” the statement added.
ASUU also warned that the situation could disrupt industrial harmony, stressing that members’ patience should not be taken for granted.
“It appears our patience is being stretched by those undermining industrial harmony,” the union said.
To enforce compliance, ASUU revealed that its strike monitoring team would be activated.
The development is expected to significantly disrupt academic activities at University of Jos if the issues remain unresolved.
