NYFF Youth Leadership Development Fund 2026 – Nigeria

Share

In a major move to bolster youth participation in national governance, the Nigeria Youth Futures Fund (NYFF) has officially announced the opening of its 2026 Youth Leadership Development Fund. The initiative aims to provide critical financial support to young changemakers and youth-led organizations dedicated to shaping the future of Nigeria.

The NYFF, a five-year collaborative powerhouse fueled by LEAP Africa, the MacArthur Foundation, the Ford Foundation, and the Luminate Group, seeks to bridge the gap between youth activism and sustainable policy influence.

Funding Tiers: Small and Development Grants

The 2026 fund is divided into two distinct categories designed to empower both individual activists and established grassroots groups:

  • The Small Grant ($1,000): Targeted at 100 individual youth activists (aged 18–35) with a proven track record of community building and social innovation.

  • The Development Grant ($10,000): Allocated to 60 youth-led grassroots organizations focusing on high-impact, community-based programs.

Strategic Priorities for National Growth

To ensure the funding drives meaningful change, the NYFF has identified six thematic pillars for this year’s cycle:

  1. Policy and Advocacy: Supporting public sector reforms and the implementation of National and State Youth Policies.

  2. Electoral Engagement: Promoting candidate debates, manifesto analysis, and post-election accountability.

  3. Accountability and Transparency: Focusing on budget tracking and the oversight of public institutions.

  4. Social Inclusion: Advancing gender equality and the domestication of the Disability Act.

  5. National Cohesion and Peacebuilding: Funding youth-led interventions for community security and harmony.

  6. Innovation and Media: Leveraging civic technology, digital applications, and creative arts for social change.

Eligibility and Deadlines

The program is strictly open to Nigerians aged 18 to 35. Applicants must demonstrate a history of integrity, creativity, and the capacity to implement sustainable solutions.

Requirements for Individuals:

  • Valid identification or institutional affiliation.

  • Two reputable referees.

  • A clear project concept aligned with the thematic priorities.

Requirements for Organizations:

  • Must be youth-led and youth-focused.

  • Evidence of prior achievements and a solid governance structure.

Important Deadline: All applications must be submitted via the official NYFF portal by March 28, 2026.

Organizers have cautioned applicants to avoid common pitfalls, such as submitting vague proposals or failing to provide complete documentation, as the evaluation process will strictly weigh projects based on their potential for long-term impact and innovation.
