IBADAN – The Oyo State Government has intensified its commitment to educational excellence by strengthening the Education Trust Fund (ETF) and launching a large-scale distribution of science equipment and instructional materials across the state.
Strategic Investments and Academic Gains
During a symbolic handover ceremony at the ETF Office in Onireke, the Commissioner for Education, Science, and Technology, Prof. Olusegun Olayiwola, highlighted the state’s proactive approach to resource mobilization.
Representing the State Governor, Olayiwola lauded the recent academic success of Oyo State, which secured third place nationwide in the most recent NECO examinations. He credited this milestone to:
  • The strategic recruitment of over 16,000 new teachers.
  • Continuous capacity building for educators.
  • Significant investments in school infrastructure and learning environments.
Olayiwola expressed high optimism for the future, stating that the government aims for the number one spot in both NECO and WAEC examinations by 2026.
FGN-UBEC/SUBEB Intervention 2024
In a parallel development, the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board (OYOSUBEB), in partnership with the Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC), officially flagged off the 2024 Intervention Programme. This initiative focuses on equipping primary and junior secondary schools with essential learning aids.
Dr. Nureni Aderemi Adeniran, Chairman of OYOSUBEB, detailed the massive volume of supplies being deployed:

  • Assessment Tools: 40,000 six-year Continuous Assessment Cards produced locally by OYOSUBEB.
A Collaborative Vision
Earlier, the Chairman of the Oyo State Education Trust Fund, Rahman Abdu-Raheem, reaffirmed the Fund’s role in complementing government efforts.
